Early Literacy Intervention

Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) Programme provides daily, one-to-one, 7-minute phonics sessions for children who are not on track with whole class phonics teaching. Using a bespoke technology tool, a trained Early Literacy Interventionist works individually with target children to enable them to keep up.
How it Works
1
One-to-one tailored sessions take place 3-5 times per week in the school setting.
2
Trained staff work closely with each child to help them develop their phonics skills, including reading decodable texts.
3
These sessions can be aligned with any DfE approved systematic, synthetic phonics (SSP) scheme and are designed to close gaps and reinforce whole-class phonics teaching.

Early Literacy Interventionists
Our specialist Early Literacy Interventionists are trained in teaching reading, including phonics, comprehension and fluency.
They are employed by Chapter One and all receive regular, tailored training, coaching and quality assurance from our Schools Development Manager. They frequently communicate with teachers and SLT and take part in ELI pupil progress meetings and evaluations.
In addition to phonics teaching, they offer support in:
- phonics assessment
- identifying and addressing misconceptions
- supporting learners with EAL and SEND needs
- supporting learners who may have missed learning due to absence or moving schools
Get Involved
We believe that with the right support, at the right time, every child can have the opportunity to thrive. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for new ELI school partners.
If you think that the pupils in your school could benefit from our ELI programme, please get in touch with Kathryn Taylor, our Schools Development Manager, at kathryn.taylor@chapterone.org.
