Chapter One in Bradford
Chapter One has been supporting primary schools in Bradford since 2018
Through our Online Reading Volunteers Programme, children in Bradford and Keighley are matched one to one with a corporate volunteer for a weekly reading session during the school day. The sessions build reading confidence, fluency and enjoyment at the age when that support makes the most difference. The sessions take place on our own audio-only platform, so the focus stays on the reading.
A Bradford child who wouldn't engage with reading now puts his hand up to read to his entire class - and calls his Chapter One volunteer his 'best friend'. Read Ayden’s story.
None of this happens without the companies that enable their employees to volunteer. We are grateful to the corporate partners supporting us in Bradford, including Ashurst Perkins Coie, AtkinsRéalis, the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, Saffery and High Speed Training.
We continue to have a waiting list of schools in Bradford and Keighley that want their children to take part in the programme. If your company thinks it could help with volunteers or funding, please get in touch with Karen Price at karen.price@chapterone.org.
We're delighted that our work in Bradford is supported by the Sir Ken and Lady Morrison Fund.
It all starts with literacy.
