We are excited to be taking part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge to give the gift of reading to children this festive season. Donations made to Chapter One during the campaign week (3 to 10 December 2024) will be doubled!
One donation, twice the impact.
We have set ourselves the target of raising £10,000 through our first Christmas Challenge, which will be used to help provide children across the UK with one-to-one reading sessions during the 2024-25 school year.
Online donations made to Chapter One during the campaign week up to a total value of £5,000, will be matched with £5,000 in pledged funds. Our pledge funders, who have agreed to support us on the basis of us raising online donations are The EQ Foundation, Clyde & Co, Encore Group, Lewis Silkin, Mishcon de Reya and T.Rowe Price.
Online donations to Chapter One will be made via the Big Give online match funding platform during the campaign week. All donations must be made by credit or debit card, or there is a BACS option for those unable to donate by card and who want to give £500 or more. This video on the Big Give website explains how match funding works.
🙋 How can you get involved?
Register for Chapter One’s special virtual event on Tuesday, 3 December to kick off the Big Give campaign - and invite your friends and family along too! We will be asking attendees for a donation to the campaign in return for expert book recommendations for children aged 4 to 11 just in time for holiday gift-giving.
Visit our Christmas Challenge campaign page and make a donation from midday on Tuesday 3 December to midday on Tuesday 10 December. Set a reminder so you remember not to miss your chance to double your donation!

Did you know that 40% of 11-year-olds facing disadvantage leave primary school struggling to read at the expected level? I’m proud to volunteer with literacy charity @Chapter One UK to try and change this, one child at a time, and this week, there’s a special opportunity to support them!
Until 10 December, all donations to Chapter One will be doubled through their Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign. They're aiming to raise £10,000 to provide more one-to-one reading sessions for children facing disadvantage. 🌟📚⚡
As a volunteer, I've seen firsthand how these sessions transform the lives of young readers. Would you join me in supporting this vital work? Donate here - every pound you give will be matched: http://bit.ly/3YUW3A5
Not able to donate? Please help spread the word - and if your organisation would like to partner with Chapter One, I’d be happy to answer any questions!

Every week, I spend 30 minutes as an online reading volunteer with Chapter One, supporting a young student with their reading. It's the highlight of my week, seeing their confidence grow with each session. 📚
