Your summer story: a simple fundraising toolkit

A few easy, low-effort ways to turn your summer reading into support for Chapter One - pick whichever fits, or do your own thing!

Sponsored read or book

Ask friends, family or colleagues to pledge an amount per book (or per page) you read this summer.

Literary quiz

Host a quiz night with book-themed rounds, in person or over video. Charge a small entry fee.

Book swap with donation

Bring in books to the office you've finished, take one home for a small donation.

Bookworm bingo

A card of small reading challenges (re-read a childhood favourite, read outdoors, try a new genre). Pledge per square completed.

The Artemis Charitable Foundation story

The Artemis Charitable Foundation is going all in for the National Year of Reading with a year-long Charity Readathon Challenge - pledging £25 for every book read throughout 2026. So far, 70 Artemis colleagues have read 386 books, raising £2,412.50 for Chapter One. Could you do something similar?

Getting started

  • Pick your challenge from the ideas above, or make up your own

  • Set up a free JustGiving page to collect donations

  • Share your page with friends, family and colleagues - and on social media

  • Check whether your employer offers matched giving - many will double your total

With every £18 you raise, you could fund a one-to-one online reading session for a child we support

If you have any questions about fundraising for Chapter One, please feel free to email Lisa Barea at lisa.barea@chapterone.org (Fundraising Manager) or Chris Poole at chris.poole@chapterone.org (Fundraising Officer) - we’d be happy to help!

It all starts with literacy.
