38% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard - many of these children fall behind with reading simply because they lack the opportunity to practice.

Chapter One is a small but growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in 10 areas/regions of the UK and will support 3,000 children in 2023-24.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

This Administration Assistant role is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to the work of our fast-growing charity. You will work as part of the Chapter One Support Team, ensuring that volunteers have everything that they need to make a success of their reading sessions with pupils. You will be the first point of contact for our volunteers, so excellent customer service skills and a genuine interest in helping others is essential.

Reporting to the Performance and Data Manager, you will work for 30 hours a week (Monday to Friday) and will need to be available for an 9am start each morning. You will work remotely and will need to have access to a reliable internet connection.

This role is ideal for someone home-based who wishes to work part-time in a fast-paced and varied administrative role.
